Develops understanding of the practical applications of trauma practice, research, and theory among individuals and communities affected by trauma. The course examines age, gender, race, culture, social class, systemic issues, community standards of care, and other factors that are important in designing and implementing programs to fit client needs with appropriate treatment.

OBJECTIVES:

Clinical Standards of Trauma Care goal is to train the traumatologist to develop an understanding of the practical applications of trauma practice, research, and theory among individuals and communities affected by trauma. The program examines age, gender, race, culture, social class, systemic issues, community standards of care, and other factors that are important in designing and implementing a program that fits client needs with appropriate treatment.

WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM PARTICIPATION?

This course will benefit psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, master’s level counselors and other skilled mental health professionals who work with trauma survivors or wish to gain skills to do so. Participants will enhance their practice specialty in the area of trauma recovery.

Participants will learn about:

  • Attachment & Development
  • The legacy of Traumatized Children
  • Treatment of Traumatized Children
  • Understand family systems relative to traumatic stress and be able to provide systemic interventions with entire traumatized family and/or other system(s)
  • Making Trauma Work Systemically
  • Cross Cultural Competencies & Standards of Care for Traumatologists
  • Identify various trauma responses among different cultural, racial, gender, age, groups and communities
  • Developing awareness of own and other’s cultural values and framework

COURSE EVALUATION:

Students are required to complete all training materials on-line, complete quizzes, read through the manual and other related or recommended materials. Certificates of Completion for the course will be provided once all requirements are met.

FEE:

Canadian $75.00 plus applicable taxes. Students will have 160 days access to this course.

Course pre-requisites:

Participants are required to have the following qualifications to enrol in these programs: A minimum of a Master’s Degree or higher qualifications within a counselling type program or enrolment in a Master’s level program with a counselling mandate OR A minimum of 4 years of counselling work with ongoing supervision.

In the Clinical Traumatologist stream, courses have been limited to those students with appropriate qualifications.

If we learn that a student does not meet our minimum qualifications, he/she will be removed from the program, will not receive a Certificate of Completion and course fees will not be refunded.
